Your wedding day is one of the biggest days of your life. It's natural that you want to look your best. Dreaming of waking up to a spot respresentative of Mount Everest is nothing short of a nightmare. Believe me, being a newly engaged bride-to-be, I can completely empathise. So how can you guarantee flawless skin on your wedding day? I've gathered a few quick tips to help you be the most beautiful bride imaginable.
1. Get A Skin Analysis
Remember, a good start is half the battle. A great start, and a strong first step towards flawless skin is to undergo a skin analysis. A good beauty therapist will be able to tell you what your skin type is and how you should look after it. If you have a skin problem, she will be able to recommend a facial program and give you home care advice.
2. Start Early
Start good skin car routine about a year before your wedding. If you don’t have a year, don’t panic (stress is not good for your skin either!). Just get into a good skincare routine as soon as possible.
3. Establish A Great Skincare Routine
Invest in good products, establish a routine, and stick to it. It can be difficult if you are not used to it, but it is essential if you want to acheive a truely flawless look. Again, a skin analysis is the perfect start to this step.
Typically, a good routine consists of cleansing, toning and moisturising daily. On a weekly basis you should exfoliate your skin once/twice a week followed by a suitable face mask.
4. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is key. Eight hours per night is highly recommended. You don’t want to have tired, puffy eyes on the morning of your wedding. There is only so much a make up artist can do!
5. Stay Hydrated
Another important element of flawless skin in hydration. Your skin needs plenty of water. No matter what type of skin you have - oily, dry, sensitive, dehydrated or combination - water is the key. Drink at least 2 litres per day. Eating watermelon, grapefruit, broccoli and lettuce will also help.
A great moisturiser can also help. It’s a common misconception that oily skin equals blemishes which means those with acne prone skin tend to avoid moisturising the skin altogether. However, your skin actually over-produces oil when it is dehydrated so the trick is to keep it well moisturised.
6. Keep Your Make-Up Brushes Clean
Over time, your make-up brushes grow into a breeding ground for bacteria. Wash your make up brushes in lukewarm water and a small amount of facial wash. This will prevent bacteria living on the brushes which cause breakouts when used on the skin. Wash loose powder brushes every 2/3 weeks and foundation brushes once per week.
7. Protect Your Skin From The Sun
Protect your skin from the sun by using a SPF all year round. The sun affects the skin every day - even on cloudy days. Most moisturisers and foundations have SPF in them so there is no excuse. Too much exposure to the sun can result in wrinkles, dehydration and other blemishes.
8. Don't Sqeeze Your Spots
Squeezing your spots is probably the guilty pleasure you will never admit to. Even following all the above tips, the occasional blemish may still pop up (hormones, eh?). The key is to leave it them well alone. Don't touch them and drink plenty of water and they should disappear in a jiffy.
